While hot water can dry out the skin, leaving tight and scaly, cold water tightens the pores and tones the skin. Cold showers help also contract the muscles, encouraging them to eliminate toxins, leaving the skin glowing. Finally, cold showers help cleanse the circulatory system, promoting the flow of blood to the capillaries and the surface of the skin.

History of Cool showers

Cold showers are a tradition in many cultures. In Eastern Europe, spas Scandinavian bath, where people make a circuit of hot and cold tubs and hammams, are common. Cold showers are a form of hydrotherapy called Ishnaan East. Hydrotherapy relies on the principle that when cold water hits the skin, it causes the blood to rush to the surface of the skin in self-defense, improving overall circulation. Guru yoga Bhai Dr. Bibiji Inderjit Kaur Sahiba explains the psychological benefits of ishnaan in his book living reality: "when you take a cold shower in the morning, it is as the first battle of the day. ... "And when you come out victorious, you are ready to face any challenge whatever happens".

How to take a cold shower

To get the most benefit from the cold shower hydrotherapy and to get the blood circulating on the skin, start with massage oil of almonds all over the body and face. The oil contains a lot of vitamins and minerals that go deep into the pores and nourishes the skin. Once in the shower, massage the body while focusing on the underarms, thighs, legs and breasts, which are the main nerve centres. Enter and exit the shower four times, until your body adjusts to the temperature. Finish dry with a rough towel to exfoliate dead skin cells. The result? Shiny, healthy and glowing skin.

Shower time

If you averaged 20 minutes under a hot shower every morning, you probably stripping moisture to your skin and protective oils. Instead, keep cool water and time up to ten minutes.
