Tie a knot at one end of the new cord. This helps to prevent from accidentally slipping through if you pull too hard.

Attach the other end of the cord new to the old. Cut or untie the knots that may be present on the old cord.

Pull the old cord out, while sliding the new cord in the belt at the same time. Pinch along the belt to remove slack, assisting in the integration of the new cable.

Remove the safety pin. Tie a knot at the other end of the cable, if you wish.
